Obituary

Ann McKenzie, 83, our precious mother, passed away December 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and strength. Born in Afton, Oklahoma to Rev. Herschel & Imogene Barnes, she lived her formative years there before moving to Tulsa to attend business school. In 1968, she married our dad, Walt McKenzie and settled into life as a homemaker where she raised us girls (and we did not always make that easy for her) and filled her days with laughter, guidance and the steady kind of love only she could give. In 1977 our family moved to Owasso, where she worked as a secretary for State Farm and we attended First Baptist Church. In 1992, just five short days after becoming a grandma for the first time, she lost her loving husband and eventually moved back to Tulsa. There she found a wonderful church home at Christ Church on Harvard where she made many long and lasting friendships. She continued to build a life rich with friendship, community, and devotion to her friends and family.

Her greatest joy in life was being "Mimi", nothing lit up her face more than the mention of her grandchildren. She celebrated every milestone-big or small-and made them all feel uniquely cherished. They were the center of her world, and she poured her heart into loving them with a devotion that shaped who they are today.

Followed as a close second, her next big love was her little dogs. First was Mickey who was her constant companion while she grieved our daddy. Next came Brixie, then Bella and her last and current love, Libby Lou.

Ann was the perfect blend of sweet and sassy-a strong woman of faith whose kindness wrapped around you, yet whose quick wit could make you laugh when you needed it most. She had a compassionate heart that drew people in, and a spark in her personality that made her unforgettable.

She was preceded in death by her husband and our daddy, Walt McKenzie. She is survived by daughters Laura & Bobby King, Angie & Tom Stephens and her beloved grandchildren, Kirstie & Kia Golmoradi, Bailee & Brody Gore, Dakota & Carson Fugate and Jared King. She also had a special place in her heart for her bonus grandchildren, Dereck & Paige Stephens, Ryan & Rachel Stephens and great-grandchildren Beckett, Beau Cooper & Colton.

To honor our momma, we know she would love any donations made to the animal rescue of your choice.
