Virgil Francis Shelton was born September 30, 1931 at Morning Side Hospital in Tulsa, OK. He was the only child of his parents, Virgil Ninvia and Eleanor May Shelton. Virgil grew up in Tulsa and graduated from Will Rogers High School. He worked for OTASCO several years before being drafted into the US Army during the Korean War. After returning from service he moved to Miami, Florida and was a life guard at one of the large hotels on Miami beach and this started his love for scuba diving. After the season was over, he moved back to Tulsa and returned to work at OTASCO. In 1954, he first met June Ellen Cue but it was not until 1957 when they began dating and soon after married on April 25, 1958.
Virgil and June Ellen worked side by side to raise their three children: Robert, Kerri and Lori. Virgil worked for Century Electronics, North American and Tulsa Urban Renewal but his entrepreneurial spirit led him to Real Estate investing and opening the family antique business, "Stuff-n-Such". After closing the antique shop he continued in Real Estate investments.
In 1994, they purchased a cabin on Spring Creek where they spent many years enjoying the outdoors. In his lifetime he enjoyed the water; swimming, boating, fishing and water skiing. He also enjoyed traveling with June Ellen throughout Europe, Caribbean and Central America. So much so they spent a lot of time off and on in Panama.
Virgil was a strong Christian and kept his faith till the very end, leaving a large family who loves him very much.
