Virginia (Ginny) C. Baker, longtime resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away on June 25, 2022 at 1:50AM CDT. She was born October 26, 1925 in Sugar Creek, MO.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Wesley H. Baker; her father, Steven Penyock; mother, Teresa (Sojcak) Penyock; brother and sister, John Penyock and Mary Penyock, who died in infancy. Virginia was also preceded by brothers and sisters, Agnes (Penyock) Wells, Thomas Penyock, Paul Penyock, Betty (Penyock) Daniels, Velma (Penyock) Pott and grandchild, Elizabeth Baker Frank, who died in infancy.
She is survived by her children B. Bruce Baker and his wife Katherine, Robert W. Baker and his wife Linda, James H. Baker and his wife Cynthia and Christine C. (Baker) Frank and her husband John. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren: Emily Baker, Lyle Baker, Anna Baker-Koch, Nick Baker, Sarah Baker, Jack Frank, Kate Frank, Andrew and Will Frank. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Noah Baker and Aurora Koch. Many nieces and nephews also survive Mrs. Baker.
Virginia was very competitive. She golfed for 40 years starting at the El Dorado Country Club in El Dorado, Kansas where she lived for ten years. Upon moving to Tulsa, Virginia became active in the La Fortune and Paige Belcher Golf Club's Women's Associations. She also played bridge into her 90's. She enjoyed gardening, always having several tomato plants during the season. Virginia was an early member of the Catholic Church of the Resurrection and she worked through Church of the Resurrection with their Neighbor for Neighbor program. She did volunteer work at St. Francis Hospital, Children's Medical Center and Meals on Wheels.
Mrs. Baker will be interred next to her husband at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Tonganoxie, KS.
Celebration of life will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 15th at St Cyrils in Sugar Creek, Missouri
