Obituary

Virginia Blackstock Wise was born on July 2, 1917 in Bixby, OK to Joe A. and Winifred Lundy Lowman. She passed away peacefully on Mar 23, 2016 at Saint Simeon Senior Community in Tulsa, OK after a brief illness. She is survived by her five children: Craig Blackstock and Trena Blackstock of Tulsa, Lore Mitchell of Fort Worth, TX, Priscilla Kurz of St Louis, MO and Burch Blackstock of San Diego, CA.

Virginia grew up in Bixby, OK, attended Bixby Schools and graduated in 1935. During high school she played the cello in a string quartet at functions in the area. After high school, she became a legal secretary in Tulsa and met a young lawyer named LeRoy Blackstock whom she married in 1937. Virginia continued to work and LeRoy proceeded to establish his legal practice in Tulsa. They would enjoy 63 years together and have many friends.

Virginia spent the last years of WWII as a Navy wife and mother of two in Oakland, CA. On her return to Tulsa, OK, she set up her household, made curtains and had three more children. She was among those women who pioneered the Tulsa County Bar Association Auxiliary, and Virginia later served as president of that organization. She and LeRoy were longtime members of First Baptist Church in Tulsa where for many years Virginia taught Sunday School and LeRoy served as a deacon. She was a faithful member of Bible Study and supported mission work. She accomplished large and intricate sewing projects for herself and others. She was a member of the Eliot Elementary School PTA for nineteen consecutive years and served as president of the Eliot PTA and the Edison High School PTA.

Later in life, she and LeRoy traveled the world. Trips to France, England, China and Pakistan were caught on film as her husband enjoyed making home movies LeRoy showed special, full-length films of their trips to Egypt, the Holy Lands, and other places at libraries in the Tulsa area.

After LeRoy's death in 2000, Virginia was married for three years to Max Wise of Tulsa, who died in 2006. Virginia was preceded in death by her above-mentioned parents, her brother, Joe of Bixby and her two sisters, Sue Graham of Bixby and Helen Curtis, who lived in California. She is survived by her sister, Betty Kaufman of Tulsa. Virginia is survived by her above-mentioned five children, who will never forget and always be grateful for her Sunday-after-church pot roast. Her thirteen grandchildren adored her. Her seven great-grandchildren will listen to stories about their kind and elegant great-grandmother until her memory is secure with them. The family has suggested donations be made to Saint Simeon Senior Community, Tulsa, OK.
