Obituary

Virginia Blanche Daughtrey "Tot" Hill, 90, passed away to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 9, 2018. The daughter of Virginia Shelton Harris and John Richard Daughtrey of Uniontown, Kentucky, she was born on March 3, 1928, in Joliet, Illinois. Soon after her family moved to Independence, Missouri, where she spent her early childhood and elementary school days. Her family later moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where she graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School as Valedictorian of her class of 1946.

During the late 1940's, she enjoyed a brief modeling career, and was crowned as the California Queen of the Santa-Cali-Gon beauty pageant in Independence, Missouri, in 1947. She was a University Beauty in 1948 at the University of Tennessee, graduating in 1950, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. On September 2, 1950, she married Edwin Gene Hill, of Tulsa, with whom she celebrated their 63rd anniversary in 2013. Tot was a committed Christian, and gave generously throughout her life to numerous Christian ministries and other organizations. She was a devoted, generous, and caring wife and mother. She enjoyed a career as an administrative assistant for Tulsa Community College, retiring in 2005.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the National Society of the Magna Charta Dames, and the Tulsa Figure Skating Club. Among her interests were Bible study, American history, piano music, genealogy, and Old English Sheepdogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her three devoted brothers, Richard, Douglas, and Gilbert. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Shelton Hill, of Far Hills, New Jersey; one cousin, Mrs. Nancy Whitley of Richmond, Virginia; nephew, Gilbert Daughtrey of Tyler, Texas; as well as several other nieces and nephews. The family thanks her excellent caregivers at Inverness Village and Asbury Solomons.

The visitation will be held 4:00-6:00 pm, Friday, April 20, 2018, at Moore's Southlawn. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel in Tulsa, under the direction of Moore's Southlawn Funeral Home.
