W. B. (DUB) LOVELL


Retired Navy Captain W. B. (Dub) Lovell died on April 25, 2014. He was born April 8, 1930 in Tulsa to Charles Clifford and Lular Brummett Lovell. He was a graduate of Daniel Webster High School and the University of Tulsa, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Dub taught at Lowell Elementary prior to entering the Navy in September, 1953. Assignments during his career included
service on the USS Wisconsin and the USS Matthews, two tours of duty in Naples, Italy on the staff of the Commander in Chief, Allied Forces Southern Europe, and work as an advisor to the Vietnamese Department of Defense. Upon attaining the rank of Captain, he also served as the Controller, U.S. Pacific Fleet and as the Commanding Officer, Navy Finance Center, twice earning the Legion of Merit for
outstanding service. During his Navy career, Captain Lovell earned a Master of Business Administration Degree in Financial Management from George Washington University.

Retiring from the Navy after 26 years of active duty, Captain Lovell moved to California, working as Business Manager, Oakland Unified School District, and as Vice Chancellor for Business and Administrative Services, Peralta Community College District and the South County Community College District. The Lovells returned to Tulsa in 1986, where Dub became Director of Accounting for Tulsa
Public Schools. He then assumed the position of Business Manager for Tulsa Technology Center, retiring in June, 1996. In 2002, his alma mater, Daniel Webster High School, inducted Dub into their Hall of Fame.

Dub was an active member of Boston Avenue United Methodist Church. He served three terms on the Administrative Board and took part in the Homebound Ministry, Meals on Wheels, and the History and Archives Committee.
Dub is survived by his of wife of 61 years, Georgiann Pinkston Lovell, along with nieces and nephews Ruth Pompa, Cliffard Lovell, and Patsy Harnish, of Tulsa; James Lovell, of Claremore; Debra Patterson, of Bartlesville; Kirk Lovell, of Seattle; Judy Chin, of Miami, Florida; and Nancy Golden and Dan Brummett, of California. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Dewell, James Harrell, Charles Schuyler, and Henry Coy, and sister Angie Brummett.

A celebration of his life will be held in the Rose Chapel at Boston Avenue United
Methodist Church at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. Memorial gifts may
