Walker Moore passed from this life into Glory on June 26th, 2023. Born in Marshall, MO in 1951 to Orville Dean and Katie Moore. When he was a young man, he received an official missionary card presented to him by the Royal Ambassadors. This was just a small card given to all young men who went through the Royal Ambassador program, but to Walker Moore, it would be one of the defining moments of his life. He saw this card as his God given permission slip to enter any country, any village, any jungle, and to share the good news of Jesus Christ with anyone who would listen. He started his ministry as the pastor of an African American church and continued to minister at different churches including First Baptist Tulsa. He went on to be the president and founder of AweStar Ministries whose goal it was to raise up the next generation of missionaries. Walker spent his life investing in the lives of others. He married the love of his life Cathy and partner in ministry in 1974 and with whom he had two boys Jeremiah and Caleb. Together they changed the lives of thousands of people, started churches in remote corners of the world and were a true gift to believers everywhere.
For Walker, it was never about the title or the travel, it was all about the people. If he had an adventure before him, he wanted to take as many with him on the adventure as possible. Along the way, he made friends with everyone who crossed his path. It didn't matter if you were the chief of the Embera tribe in Panama, or a cab driver in Mexico, you mattered to Walker because he rightly believed that we all mattered to Jesus. He modeled the love and grace of Jesus to his family on a daily basis and was the biggest fan of his wife and children. In his later years, he found his deepest passion was being a poppy to his three grandchildren. He was a serving member of Parkview Baptist Church for many years. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cathy Moore, his two sons, Jeremiah and his wife Erin, Caleb and his wife Adrian as well as three grandchildren Titus the honorable, Cohen the goodhearted, and River the peacemaker. He is also survived by his three brothers Gary, Scotty, and Ronnie. He is preceded in death by his father Orville Dean, mother Katie and sister Barbra Jean.
In Lieu of flowers we would ask for your support in providing resources to all the missionaries who depended on Walker by making a donation to Back40 Ministries.
