Walter Edwin (Walt) Sabourin, Jr. passed to an eternal life with his Heavenly Father on February 18, 2020 in Tulsa, Oklahoma; he was born November 2, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois. Raised in Chicago; Corpus Christi, TX; near Nevada, MO; and Wichita, KS. He lived in Tulsa, OK since 1974. Beloved husband of Barbara Jean Sabourin. Survived by sons Richard E. Sabourin (Dee) of Temple, TX and Timothy H. Sabourin (Karen) of Woodland Hills, CA; Stepson Larry Thomas (Kristen) of Broken Arrow, OK; Stepdaughters Candace Pottle (Tony) of Frisco, TX and Nicole Champlin of McKinney, TX; Grandchildren, Angela Sabourin of Norman, OK, Rachel Sabourin of Broken Arrow, Richard E. Sabourin, Jr (Shonda) of Tulsa, Rosalyn Sabourin of Woodland Hills, CA, Madison and Max Thomas of Broken Arrow, Garrett, Braden, Hannah and Cassidy Pottle of Frisco, TX and Heather and Ashleigh Etheridge of Temple, TX. Great-Grandchildren: Riley Kuder of Broken Arrow, and Melady, Landon and Jeremiah Sabourin of Tulsa, OK Nephew Michael Sabourin (Ruth) of Arlington, TX and nieces, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Alice Sabourin, sister Alice Mary Adam and brother Stanley C. Sabourin.
Mr. Sabourin was a Missouri Synod Lutheran Commissioned Minister of Religion at the time of this passing, serving nursing homes and memory care and assisted living homes in Tulsa and vicinity for a number of years in addition to proving pulpit service and assisting in numerous churches. The church was the love of his life. He was a graduate of Tulsa Community College and additional credit classes through Concordia University, Mequon, WI.
Prior to ministry, Mr. Sabourin was retired having traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada and in the Middle East, Africa, Eastern Europe, Australia and New Zealand. After retirement he was a substitute teacher of the Tulsa, Broken Arrow and Union School Districts prior to beginning his ministry. He wrote extensively with short stories and poetry published in the Catalina Sunrise, Carvings in Stone and in Editions I, II, III of Late Harvest as well as on the Internet.
