Walter Lee Swander (89) passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, leaving behind a Legacy of devotion to family, hard work, and lifelong friendships. Walt was born on August 14, 1936 and raised in Hannibal, Missouri by his parents, Olaf Walter and Majorine Swander. Walt had one brother, Robert. He is preceded in death by his parents, Olaf and Majo; wife, Glenda, and daughter, Lynn.

While attending Hannibal-LaGrange Junior College, Walt met the love of his life, Glenda Parsons and they were married on September 21, 1957. He went on to graduate from the Rolla School of Mines, earning a degree in Chemical Engineering. Walt and Glenda built a faith-filled life and had two children, Avis Lynn and Lea Ann. His three girls (Glenda, Lynn, and Lea were the light of his life. He was blessed with seven grandchildren Margaret, Mary, Sam, Calvert, Jack, Frances, and Paige and 6 great grandchildren, Robbie, Eva, Georgie, Teddy, Jack, and Bridget.

After retiring, he cherished the time spent renovating his rental houses with all his grandchildren working alongside him. The grandchildren gained not only practical skills but the priceless gift of time with their Papa. Through this shared work, they came to know him deeply, and Walt fostered strong meaningful relationships with each of them.

Walt only had three jobs over a career which lasted 55 years. Through his work as a chemical engineer, Walt traveled extensively around the world, for work and pleasure. He enjoyed his work, but more importantly his co-workers. He would want to thank all of them for a wonderful experience.

Walt will be remembered for his steady presence, generous spirit, and unwavering love for the LORD and his family. His life was full, well lived, and leaves a lasting imprint on all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Services for Walter will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 23, 2026 at Newspring Family Church, 2907 W. 108th Pl S, Jenks, Oklahoma 74037.
