Wanda S. Stone arrived in Arapaho, Oklahoma on October 18, 1931, and lit up the world. She left Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 14, 2022, and lit up heaven. She was born and raised in Arapaho, and after graduating from high school spent a brief time at Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, where she met and married Charles L. Denney, the father of her children. They settled in Tulsa in 1951 and after his untimely death in 1973, she met and married Jack D. Stone in 1975. They remained in Tulsa until 2002 when they retired to a new chapter in their life to Jenks, OK.
Wanda was a people person who loved to cook and entertain in her home. Sometimes the meal was the entertainment. She once inadvertently substituted salt for sugar in a dessert. Boy was that a surprise! Or the time she put her famous cherry nut pie in the freezer to set up, and the cherries ended up like marbles. She loved fresh-caught fish, fried up any day of the week. She wasn't picky.
She loved old movies, music, big band, choir, Handel, and Sousa. She performed with Sweet Adelines for several years and joined in with her lovely voice in many a church choir. If you watched a ballgame on TV with her, she got so excited that you were lucky to have any hearing left afterwards. Oklahoma State of course! Go Pokes! She would be the first one to arrive and the last one to leave the many family get-togethers and birthday parties.
She was quick to speak her mind on almost any subject, sometimes stepping on toes, but she never missed a chance to speak about her faith! Her church family has always been vital in surrounding her with support, prayer, and vice versa. She would want to be remembered most for being a faithful Servant of her Lord Jesus Christ.
Wanda was never afraid of hard work for she didn't know anything different. She began her career at 13 years of age, working as one of the local switchboard operators, and after her children were grown, went on to own a successful business with her husband. Between those years she worked steadily in various office settings. In hindsight though, she wished she had been a stay-at-home mom, so she spent her later years spoiling her children rotten!
Wanda loved jigsaw puzzles, and put together hundreds over the years, the more colorful they were the better. And she could solve the various word puzzles in the newspaper faster than anything. She was happy to share her words of encouragement and wisdom with her extended family. She also had a very special way with babies. She loved Life! She loved Family! She loved this Country! She loved God! She loved Fireworks!
