ULMER, Ward, died on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the age of 82. He was born on June 28, 1930 to Maud and Ward Ulmer in Sayre, OK. Ward graduated from Elk City High School in 1947. While in high school, Ward lettered in football, basketball, and track. He quarter backed the football team to the state finals in 1947. Ward served in the Korean Conflict with the 45th Oklahoma National Guard until he was wounded. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Service Star Medals. After a lengthy period of rehabilitation and recovery, Ward returned to school at Southwestern State College where he graduated with a degree in business administration in 1957. After graduation, he joined the accounting department of Standard Oil. He worked for Standard Oil/AMOCO until his retirement in 1985. While in college, Ward met Estelle Wallace. They were married on August 21, 1955. At the time of his death, Ward and Estelle were married 58 years. They are the parents of Kathy Ulmer Bottroff and Craig Ulmer. He is survived by his wife, Estelle; children, Kathy and Bottroff, and Craig Ulmer; grandchildren, Mary, Amy, Hank and Sally Ulmer, and Kelly, Sabrina, Jake, and Josh Bottroff; his brother, Earl Ulmer of California. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maud Cochran, brother, Jim Ulmer. Ward?s love of sports was lifelong. He was an avid fan of TU basketball. He played golf into his 80's. He could watch a pee wee football game or the super bowl with equal pleasure. He faithfully attended Parkview Baptist Church for 45 years. He was a quiet Godly man of character and integrity who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Parkview Baptist Church or All Star Children?s Basketball Program. Service will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Parkview Baptist Church.
