Obituary

Wayland "W. R." Horn, 93, of Tulsa, OK, passed away Monday, December 5, 2022. He was born on Thursday, July 11, 1929, to John William Horn an Effie Rilla (Henderson) Horn in Odell, TX

Wayland attended Odell, TX schools, Texas Christian University and the University of Tulsa. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, stationed at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas; Fort Riley, Kansas; later with the 793rd Field Artillery Battalion at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin and Hindenburg Kaserne at Ansbach (Bavaria), West Germany where he was a personnel sergeant.

Wayland married the love of his life, JoAnn (Glover) Horn on Sunday, June 14, 1953, and they spent 60 years together, before her passing on Sunday, June 16, 2013. He worked nights at Convair in Fort Worth when he and JoAnn first married, attending TCU during the day. He later worked for American Airlines in Tulsa -- first as an IBM tabulating machine operator (data processing), attending TU at night, and finally as a computer systems manager, before retiring in 1992.

Wayland and Jo Ann have 6 children, 5 boys and one girl. The kids laugh when he told them that their mom and he were born 30 years too soon -- 30 years before "the pill." They laugh, too, when he told them that if he and their mom had it all to do over again, they still would have 6 kids -- just not necessarily the same ones.

Wayland had a beautiful tenor voice, enjoyed singing, and working on the family stories and genealogy. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his grand-kids and attending their various activities.

Wayland was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jo Ann Horn; his son, Kevin Horn; Brothers - Tom, Noble, Elton, and Leeman Horn, and one sister - Gladys Cannon

Wayland is survived by four sons, Don Horn and spouse, Paula James of Tulsa, OK, Russell Horn and spouse, Claire of Sugar Land, TX, Terry Horn and spouse, Joe Rosch of Tulsa, OK, and John Horn and spouse, Alura of Tulsa, OK; daughter, Jennifer Ramsey and spouse, Jeff of Tulsa, OK; 26 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, and a lifetime of friends.
