Obituary

Wayne Nelson Leimbach, Sr., MD was born March 10, 1922 in Brownhelm Township, Lorain County, Ohio to Henry and Lucy Leimbach. He died September 5, 2023 at 101 years old. Dora Leimbach, his wife of 71 years, preceded him in death. He is survived by his 5 children, Leslie L. Altick, Wayne N. Leimbach, JR. MD, Lauren E. Leimbach, Kurt L. Leimbach, MD, and Mark E. Leimbach, MD. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Wayne grew up on End-O-Way farm in Ohio, where he was active in 4-H club and FFA. He attended Ohio State University before enlisting in the United States Army during World War II. After the war, he attended Long Island College of Medicine in New York City and graduated in June of 1949. While in medical school he met his future wife, Dora DiCuia. Wayne completed his internship at the City of Detroit Receiving Hospital and his internal medicine residency at St Luke's Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio. During his internship he married his wife, Dora.

During the Korean War, Wayne enlisted in the United States Air Force as a medical officer. Upon discharge as a captain, he returned to St Luke's Hospital as chief medical resident. He then moved to Aurora, Illinois where he was in practice for 42 years. Wayne was president of the Kane County Medical Society and a member of the House of Delegates of the Illinois State Medical Society for 40 years. He was president of the Aurora Area Blood Bank and supervised the financing and construction of what is now known as the Heartland Blood Center.

Wayne raised his 5 children in Aurora and was involved in their activities. He was very active in Boy Scouts and served on the executive board of the Boy Scouts Council. Wayne was on the board of the Greater Aurora Chamber of Commerce and was very active in Rotary, serving as president of the Aurora area club. He continued his involvement with Rotary after moving to Tulsa. Wayne believed in hard work and lived his life to the fullest. He was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
