Wayne Barr Morgan, exceptional husband, father and grandfather, passed away January 11, 2017 at the age of 92 at Montereau Retirement Community in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As was his manner, Wayne gracefully succumbed to dementia after a five year battle.
Wayne was born January 13, 1924 in Denver, Colorado to James Llewellyn and Mabel Morgan. His family moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma where his Dad worked with the marketing division of Conoco. Wayne graduated from Ponca City High School in 1941. Continuing on to college Wayne was awarded an industrial engineering degree from Columbia University. Immediately thereafter he enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Cabot CVL-28 in the Pacific.
After the war Wayne returned to Oklahoma in 1946 where he went to work as a Sales Engineer for Warren Petroleum. Twenty years later Wayne was a President of Warren Petroleum. His final position in his stellar career in the petroleum industry was Vice-President of Gulf Oil Company (now Chevron Oil Company) in Houston, Texas. In all, Wayne moved his family 17 times. In charge of moving the family all over the United States and even Varadero Beach, Cuba, was the love of his life, Betty Sue White of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, whom he married October 26, 1947.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Betty Sue of the home, Tulsa, OK; daughters, Susan Kay Morgan (Rob Smith) of Tulsa, OK; Janet Morgan Rockefeller of Colorado Springs, CO; Nancy Anne Morgan of Tulsa, OK and granddaughter Morgan Hightower Rockefeller of Tulsa, OK.
After retirement Wayne and Betty Sue split their time between Arizona and Colorado. Wayne loved golf and the mountains. You could find Wayne in his favorite hat (from 1960's) grilling the best kielbasa ever on his precious Hasty Bake regardless of the state. When caring for two homes became more of a chore than an exciting lifestyle, Wayne and Betty Sue moved back to Tulsa, OK. Wayne cherished his time with his daughters, granddaughter and his many Warren Petroleum fellow retirees.
Wayne was respected, admired and loved in all the communities he worked and lived. His engaging smile, twinkling blue eyes and magnetic personality were traits that linger still with all who love him.
Celebration of Life to be held, 12:30 - 2 pm, Wednesday, January 18, 2017 with friends and family at Montereau in the Rendezvous, 6800 S. Granite Avenue.
