Bonds, William S. 90, died Thursday, March 6, 2014. William was born April 3, 1923,
Keota, OK, to Oscar Keeler & Pearl (Tipton) Bonds. William was truly one of the "Greatest
Generation" enlisting in the Navy in February of 1942, right after Pearl Harbor. He stayed in the
Service, retiring as Chief in 1972. William served as a Medical Corpsman and during his time in
the service he earned the American Campaign Medal, 2- Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medals,
World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Naval Unit Commendation Ribbon,
Purple Heart Medal, 5-Good Conduct Medals, and the Vietnam Service Medal. In 1957 at the request of his commanding officer, William began the first "Toys for Tots" campaign. For his tireless efforts, he received a very special letter of appreciation from R.H. Dean Captain, U.S. Marine Corps. In addition to his heroic service to our country, William was also a 32 degree Mason with the Redfork Lodge.
Senator Mullin signed an executive order for the American Flag to be flown over the Capitol in
Oklahoma City, OK. in William's honor. That flag was flown the 7th day of March, 2014.
William is survived by his sons: William W. Bonds, his wife, Linda, Tulsa, OK., Gregory Allen Bonds, Tulsa, OK., Rex Edward Bonds, his wife, Christine Fritz, Tulsa, OK., Warren Dean Sanderson, Tulsa, OK., Grandchildren: Gregory William Bonds, Renae Hunter, Danielle Hunter, & Nicole Bonds. Great grandchildren: Morgan Rae, Jordan Hunter & Caylee Hunter.
Services: He will lie in state at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, Tuesday, March 11, 2014 from
10 a.m. til 8 p.m., Funeral Honors will be Wednesday, March 12, 2014, Moore's Southlawn
Chapel at 2 p.m., interment following with military honors at Floral Haven Cemetery.
Mr. Bonds will be escorted to his final resting place by the Patriot Guard.
