WILLIAM P. HUCKIN JR, Attorney, passed away on Thursday, September 29 and was immediately taken into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born August 20, 1920 to Mary Louise and William P. Huckin in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. They preceded him in death as did a sister, Mary Louise McCormick.
Following graduation from Muskogee Central High School, he attended the University of Oklahoma. However, on December 8th, 1941 he volunteered to join the U.S. Army where he served as a B-17 pilot. He flew 53 combat missions over Italy, Romania, and Germany. He was awarded the Air Medal, Oak Leaf Clusters and Bronze Stars for the European Offensive. He attained the rank of Captain and, remained in the U.S. Air Force Reserve until 1958.
After the war he returned to OU Law School and received a Juris Doctorate degree. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and served as its president. On November 15, 1947, he and Freda were married and called Tulsa home for over 65 years. He was employed by Standard Oil and Gas Co in Tulsa and later as assistant district attorney for the City of Tulsa. His private practice of law spanned over 60 years. He was recognized by the Tulsa County Bar for Distinguished Service in 1986.
He was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church in Tulsa and served as Deacon, Elder, Sunday school teacher, member of the Presbytery Judicial Committee, and Clerk of the Session. He enjoyed chess, genealogy, travel, and OU football.
He is survived by a large and loving family: His wife, Freda, four children: Carol and Bill Huckin, III, Karla and David Huckin, Betsy and Houston Hunt, and Barbara and Mike Fennell, 11 grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
