Obituary

William "Lloyd" Hurd of Tulsa passed away on February 21, 2017. He was born in Enid on March 24, 1936 to Lettie Ellen and Walter Hurd. After graduating from Enid High School, he obtained his Bachelor's degree in history from Phillips University, where he met and married Carolyn Chatburn. He then attended graduate school at the University of Oklahoma. He taught at Owasso High School for many years where he also coached the tennis team and the Academic Bowl team.

Lloyd had a lifetime love of sports. As a young boy he played Legion baseball and later was a member of the Enid High School basketball team. As an adult, golf and tennis were a part of his life. He had a passion for education and loved to play golf and bridge. He and his wife traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, and northern Europe, visiting historical sites. Lloyd was a member of Yale Avenue Christian Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder, and teacher of the adult Friendship class.

He is survived by Carolyn, his wife of fifty-seven years, his daughter and her husband, Phyllis and Frank Holdsclaw, his three grandsons Andrew Holdsclaw, Timothy Holdsclaw, and Zachary Holdsclaw, and his brother James Hurd of Enid. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Yale Avenue Christian Church Scholarship Fund.
