William S. "Bill" Woodward died Saturday, August 29, 2015. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 20, 1930. Bill attended Tech High School and graduated from O'Keefe High School in 1949. After graduating, he joined Economy Auto Stores in Atlanta as a temporary warehouse employee. He served there in many capacities until 1955 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in Seoul, Korea in 1955-1957 as a cryptoanalyst in the intelligence department of The Signal Corps.
Upon returning from service in Korea, he rejoined Economy Auto Stores as an automotive buyer from 1957-1962. He was transferred to Tulsa, OK in 1962 by parent company OTASCO (Oklahoma Tire and Supply Company). During his career at OTASCO, he served in many capacities: buyer, merchandise manager, general merchandise manager, vice president of merchandising and vice president of real estate. In 1986 he was named president of Rapid Muffler, Inc., an OTASCO subsidiary, where he served for 10 years. In 1996, he and long-time business partner, Scott Farris, formed B&S Discount Muffler & Brakes, where he remained until he retired. Bill thoroughly enjoyed his career and traveled extensively during those years. He enjoyed business and pleasure trips to Hong Kong, Tokyo, Canada, Baja California, Hawaii and many other locations throughout his career. He met many interesting people along the way and had an abundance of stories to share with friends and family.
In August of 1958, Bill married Carol McAllister and they celebrated 57 years together in August 2015. Bill enjoyed watching football, basketball, golf and Nascar races. He always had a love for cars. He enjoyed dogs and had many over his lifetime. Favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, visiting Florida beaches, and spending as much time as possible with his children and grandchildren. Bill was well-respected by friends, family, and co-workers. He was a wonderful dad and granddad. He made his family complete and will forever be greatly loved and admired, and truly missed. He was a member of Skelly Drive Baptist Church for many years and later attended Woodlake Assembly of God.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Eva Woodward; brothers, Charles D. Woodward and George T. Woodward; and nephew, Dan Woodward. Survived by wife, Carol; daughters Rae Lewis (Jim), of Tulsa, OK; Connie Moore (Scott) of Broken Arrow, OK; Rebecka Rhodes (Wes) of Broken Arrow, OK. Grandchildren: Ryan Tanner (Jenna), Broken Arrow; Rob Lewis, Tulsa; Anna and Michael Buckley, Broken Arrow; Zac and Ashton Moore, Broken Arrow; Trent Rhodes (Emily), Fayetteville, AR; Lauren Rhodes, Tulsa; Madeline and Audrey Rhodes, Broken Arrow. Great-grandchildren: Raegan Tanner, Tulsa; Avery and Brady Tanner, Broken Arrow; and Mazie Waters, Broken Arrow. Also survived by brother, James Woodward, Jackson, GA; sisters-in-law, Ruth Woodward, Punta Gorda, FL, and Jerrie Woodward, Sandy Springs, GA; also, numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M, Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, Tulsa, OK.
Memorial service will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, September 4, 2015 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel.
