Obituary

William Michael Sturdevant passed peacefully from this life on October 28, 2017 at the age of 94. Bill was born on March 17th (St Patrick's Day), 1923 to Sam and Rita Sturdevant in Chanute, KS. He spent his growing up years on the family homestead farm in Wilson County, KS. He and his brother Jim rode horses to a one-room schoolhouse. He attended Altoona High School, then Chanute Junior College from 1941-42. In 1943, he joined the US Navy and earned a commission in the Amphibious Navy where he spent time in the South Pacific.

Following WWII he took advantage of the GI Bill and attended Kansas State University to study Petroleum Engineering. He joined the Acacia Fraternity and served as Senior Class President at KSU. On a blind date he met Dolores (Dee) Knapp around Valentines Day and they were married February 12, 1950. He continued to be a generous lifetime supporter of Kansas State.

Bill began his long career in the oil fields of Oklahoma. The young couple moved to Healdton, then Seminole and finally to Tulsa in 1954 where they raised their family. He started his career with Birdwell, which later became a division of Seismograph Service Corporation where he retired as a Vice President in 1985.

In Tulsa, Bill and Dee were charter members of John Calvin Presbyterian Church and through the years Bill served as a Deacon, Elder, and Trustee. They forged many lifelong friendships through church and enjoyed golf and bridge club outings. Bill's second career was volunteerism with the Garnett Road Meals on Wheels. For 29 years he delivered meals as well as serving on the executive committee.

Bill is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dee. He was preceded in death by his daughter Suzie Muehe (husband Dennis) of Spring, TX. Surviving daughters include Lynda Morrison of McKinney, TX and Julie Jobe (husband Mitch) of Tulsa. He has five grandchildren- Kristin Sinclair (husband Bill); Matthew Muehe (wife Natali); Kyle Morrison; Jill Vivion (husband Jody); Jackie McCart (husband Eric). Great grandchildren include Ali Muehe; Jocelyn Vivion; Everett Sinclair; Will Muehe; James Vivion. Bill always had a special bond with Dee's sibings- Al and June Knapp; Norman and Bonnie Knapp; Ruth and Sam Benton; Roy and Judi Knapp.

Bill will be dearly missed by his family, as well as by many friends and fellow church and community members.

Visitation will be 5-7PM, Thursday November 2, 2017 at Moore's Southlawn, 9350 E. 51st, Tulsa, OK. Memorial service will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, November 3, 2017 at John Calvin Presbyterian Church, 8181 E. 31st, Tulsa, OK. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233
