William David Wylie, Jr., born, April 10, 1925, Manhattan, NY, died on December 25, 2015, Tulsa, OK at the age of 90 years.
Billy, Bill, Dad, Grandpa, Great papa, and Uncle Lovey Dovey, known by many names, loved by all. He left us Christmas morning - a holiday which he looked forward to each year. His annual Christmas letter updating friends and relatives on his family was a task he greatly enjoyed.
William was preceded in death by his mother, Gertrude Raab; his father, William David Wylie; his son, William David Wylie, III.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of the home; two daughters, Susan and husband Ron Langdon, Jeanne and husband Ken Miller; five grandchildren: Sandra and husband Shaun Wilson, Stephen Langdon, David and wife Alissa Miller, James Miller, and Mary Miller; two great grandchildren with a third on the way, Daniel and Colton Wilson, and David and Alissa are expecting a baby boy.
After a brief start to his career, William was drafted into service by the United States Marine Corps July 9, 1943. He served as Private First Class in the Pacific Theatre as a Field Lineman and Switchboard Operator. He participated in action against the enemy at New Georgia. He received an honorable discharge December 8, 1945.
William married the former Phyllis Berge on June 11, 1949. They welcomed their first and only son, the late William David III on January 30, 1954. Their first daughter Susan Jeanne was born October 18, 1956 and their final child, Jeanne Jane, was born June 14, 1959.
An alumnus of New York University and a long-time employee of Cities Service Oil Company, William and his family arrived in Tulsa, OK in 1971 after stays in New York City and Philadelphia, PA. He was a member of the Masons belonging to the St. Johns Lodge in Mountain Lakes, NJ and the Tulsa Scottish Rite. After 39 years with Cities Service he retired. In retirement, William volunteered with VITA, an IRS-approved program to assist low-income families with their taxes. He enjoyed traveling to Disney World, taking cruises and other travels with friends. His cheer and consistently good spirit will be missed by his family and close friends.
He always loved the golf course and if he wasn't on the links, you might find him in the bowling alley or on the softball field. When he could no longer compete on the golf course or the bowling alley, he enjoyed the challenge of a daily Sudoku. He enjoyed watching both New York Giants, and even followed the baseball Giants to the bay area when he became a fan of the San Francisco Giants. After moving to Tulsa, he adopted the Oklahoma Sooners and upon expansion the Oklahoma City Thunder.
