Wilma was born on the 31st of October in 1922 in Lakeview, Texas to Lillie and W. E. Thompson. Her father was a farmer, and her mother was a homemaker. Wilma lost her parents at an early age and grew up in an orphanage, the Tipton Children's Home. During her time at the Tipton Children's Home, Wilma performed with The Little Trio. The trio sang on the radio and traveled to numerous Church of Christ congregations in the south to raise money for the Home throughout the 1930s.
She was a graduate of Tipton High School and attended business school in Oklahoma City. During World War II, Wilma moved across the country to work in the War Department in Washington DC.
In 1944, Wilma married her high school sweetheart, J.D. Hannah on Christmas Day in Tipton, Oklahoma. They spent 65 years together and raised three children. Wilma's family was very precious to her, and she invested deeply into creating a loving family environment. The family went on many vacations together visiting relatives and to state parks. Wilma loved the holidays and started many family traditions with her signature holiday dishes.
Wilma had a career with Tulsa Public Schools where she was a culinary instructor, retiring in the mid-1980's. She was a member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church since the 1950's where she was an active quilter with the Piecemaker Quilters club for over 30 years. She volunteered at the church often, including being a sponsor and cooking for the youth group.
Flowers and/or memorial contributions to Memorial Drive United Methodist Church are equally welcome.
