Wilma May Toomey, 97, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Wilma was born on July 16, 1927, to Lawrence and Lela Stevens in Kansas City, Kansas. She was an only child. She graduated from Ottawa University in Kansas and married Donald Earl Toomey in August of 1949.
The couple moved to Tulsa in 1950, where Don worked designing gas stations for Mid-Continent Petroleum. Wilma worked at a department store. Together, they raised four children: Danny, Terry, Bruce, and Donna. In 1959, Don's career took the family to Cedar Falls, Iowa, before they returned to Tulsa in 1963. There, Wilma pursued her passion for teaching, working in Tulsa Public Schools where her flair for art and music made a lasting impact on many students.
A talented pianist, Wilma offered piano lessons to children and played for her church, where her love for music was felt by all who knew her. She was also a gifted artist, filling her home with beautiful works of art that reflected her creative spirit.
Enjoying retirement, Don and Wilma built their dream home on an acreage in Broken Arrow and traveled the world. They especially loved cruising with friends. Wilma and Don were married for 58 years until Don's passing in 2008.
Wilma was known for her deep love of life, her family, friends, and her cherished pets. She will be remembered for her kindness, creativity, and devotion to those she loved.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Don and her parents, Lawrence and Lela.
Wilma is survived by sons Dan and his wife June, Terry, Bruce and his wife Celia, daughter Donna DeVore, grandchildren Patricia, Katharine, Melody, Christopher, Stephen, Autumn, Samantha, Kyle, Kelsey, Carey, Shilo, and Russell, as well as many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren."
Visitation will be 12pm to 2pm on Friday, February 14th, 2025 at the Moore Southlawn Chapel, 9350 East 51st Street, Tulsa, OK followed by Graveside services at 2PM at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa, OK.
