Obituary

Winifred (Winnie) Pauline Stanbery, September 30, 1928-November 4, 2024

With hearts full of memories, the family of Winnie Stanbery is sad to share her passing at 96 years old. Winnie was a friend and helper to everyone she met. A lover of life and a beautiful and wise matriarch.

Winnie is survived by: her loving children; Larry Stanbery and Paula Webb (Husband: Dennis); Grandchildren, Stephanie Maynard, Cheryl Cox, Kelly Nix, Tracy Woodall, Joshua Webb and Patrick Stanbery; Great grandchildren, Bradley Cox, Madison Young, Colby Young, Bryson Woodall, Hayden Cox, Zachary Cox, Riley Webb, Grant Maynard, Emma Nix, Carter Stanbery; Great-Great granddaughter, Braelyn Crutchfield; Her adoring sisters, Wanda Jones and Jackie Beck; and niece Claudia Denny. She was preceded in death by: her devoted husband of 65 years, Billy D. Stanbery; her daughter, Cathy Harman; her parents, Malinda Mae Wedge and James Paul Billbe; and brother, Jimmy Billbe.

Winnie was born in Kansas and spent her early childhood in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. The majority of her life was spent in Tulsa where she graduated from Central High School, class of 1947. In Tulsa, she raised her beautiful family while supporting her husband's career. She was active in her church community at First Christian Church, Tulsa. Additionally she was active in her local community working the voting poles for years on Election Day and volunteering at St. Francis creating floral arrangements. Winnie was always handy with a sewing needle creating everything from perfect little Barbie clothes and crafts to baby quilts she made for family and local hospitals. She spent many days on the lake fishing and creating memories we all treasure. She enjoyed bowling leagues and social clubs of all kinds. She could walk into a room of strangers and walk out with many new friends. After retirement, she and Billy were able to take many trips. She loved to travel. She visited the Holy Land, Egypt, Alaska, she went on many cruises and events with other American Airlines retirees. She visited and stayed in touch with family all over the country. Winnie took up painting later in life and shared her paintings with friends and family. At 90 years old, she competed in the Miss Senior Oklahoma pageant. Winnie was a wonderful mother but there is no doubt that she really excelled at being a grandmother. She was generous with her love and her time. Nana, as she was known, was up for fun and always had a shoulder and a hug when you needed it. Spending time with her family and countless friends was truly Winnie's favorite thing in life.

Winnie will be missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, service and building relationships will live on in all of us.
