Winnie Lou Thomas was born on January 31, 1925 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Walter Joseph and Winifred Jordan Allen. She died on March 7, 2018 from complications of a stroke in Tulsa. She attended Whittier Elementary, Wilson Junior High and graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1942. She attended Tulsa University and was a member of Chi Omega sorority until she married her high school sweetheart, Daniel Comstock Thomas, on December 6, 1943. They lived in several towns including Clarksville, Tennessee while Dan attended training in U.S. Army. When he served overseas in the Infantry 103 rd Infantry Division she returned to Tulsa and lived with his parents, W. Aubrey and Betty (Comstock) Thomas. After he was discharged at the end of the war he returned to Tulsa, Oklahoma to complete his undergraduate degree and law degree at Tulsa University. Dan and Winnie made their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma and raised a family. Winnie became the ultimate volunteer and was a sponsor or leader in many of the activities that her children participated in such as brownies, girl scouts, Y-teens, Edison HS band, and concert chorus. Winnie and Dan enjoyed watching many of the sports that their son was involved with and never missed a game. Later that interest extended to their grandchildren's sports as well. She was baptized as an adult along with her daughter Nancy when she joined St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.
After the family joined St. Andrews in spring of 1964 she became the Sunday School superintendent there for several years. Later Winnie became an integral part of the 'High Challenge' program at her grandchildren's elementary school. Winnie and Dan helped with many reunions for Will Rogers' graduates, traveled extensively and were avid Tulsa Oiler' fans. She loved gardening, refinishing antiques, playing bridge, walking, organizing, ice hockey, reading fiction (from library) and anything to do with cats! When Dan retired she went to work for a family friend at his newly opened clinic in South Tulsa. Winnie and Dan celebrated seventy-two years of marriage before his death in February of 2016.
Winnie and Dan had three children: Nancy Elizabeth (Jim) Anderson, Mark Allen (Donna) Thomas, Peggy Thomas (W. Bruce) Berlin plus their 'adopted' daughter Jean Sears. Her husband, parents and in-laws preceded her in death, as did her brothers John William Allen, Robert Jordan Allen, two nephews Anthony Allen and Michael Allen, her beloved cat, Charlie, and a dear friend Dr. John Sears. Winnie is survived by her three children, their spouses, her adopted daughter, many nieces and nephews, her grandchildren: Thomas Kile (father Terry) Young, Janet Kaye Anderson(Matt), Christine Marie Cook (Matt), Chris Ferguson(Laura), W. Blaine Berlin (Amanda), Thomas Drake Berlin, Ryan Sears (Kathryn), and Alexis Sears (Sean) Oaks and by great grandchildren: Brittany and Lindsay Cook, Corgan and Tesla Ferguson, Wyatt Alan Berlin, Willow Rose Wilson, and Rainey Marie Oaks.
