Yoshiko "Yoshi" Higa McCall passed away December 22, 2019. She was born December 2, 1938 in Naha, Okinawa Island, Japan. The oldest of seven children, she and her family survived the Battle of Okinawa during WWII. As a young adult, she was working as a seamstress when she met and married Luther McCall - a U.S. Marine stationed at Camp Hansen in Okinawa. From there, they relocated back to the states and settled in Ohio, then New Jersey, before eventually landing in Tulsa, OK in 1976.
Her talent and creativity knew no bounds. Continuing her sartorial endeavors, she also obtained her cosmetology license and eventually opened her own beauty shop. It was there that she found her calling. She loved people. And nothing made her happier than getting to interact them all day, every day. After retirement, it was a natural fit for her at the Tulsa International Airport as Guest Services volunteer. She also enjoyed spending as much time as possible in her garden tending to her many fruits, vegetables, plants, and koi pond.
Genuine, kind, caring, giving, and compassionate only begin to describe the kind of person she was. And her influence lives on with anyone that was fortunate enough to know her.
If you have a fond memory or funny story please post them here - a place where many come together to share. That's the "Yoshi" way. It's what she would've wanted.
Memorial Service 12:00pm, Saturday, January 4th, 2020 at Moore's Eastlawn Chapel, 1908 S. Memorial Dr. Tulsa, OK
